Bella Bistro is our favorite Italian restaurant. They have an open kitchen with black and white tiling, and the walls in the dining area are painted red. The design of the website also uses diagonal tiling, and a black, white, and red color scheme to make a strong connection between the restaurant itself and its digital representative. This website also features a Facebook plugin, social networking links, contact form, embedded Google Maps, and a WordPress blog.
Theme and Variations: New Perspectives in Music History
This website (formerly Sienna's Guide to Music) features a printer-friendly style sheet, contact form, Google custom search, embedded Wolfram Alpha widgets, visual glossary, embedded audio, embedded music notation, embedded video, styled data charts, and a contact form. The site was originally built to fulfill a requirement for my in-progress doctorate degree, but has since been expanded to include substantial sections on music basics and music history.
I designed this website for my in-laws, who live on a ranch in Southwestern Colorado where they raise sheep and alpacas. The site includes a slideshow, a contact form, and a sophisticated weather page featuring several weather plugins and displaying the weather data collected on the ranch itself.
Instead of paper invitations, RSVP cards, and a paper guestbook, we used HTML emails, managed our RSVPs entirely through this website, and used a digital guestbook plugin (built using PHP) on our website. This is a very green and time-saving technique that I highly recommend! We also used embedded Google Maps to post information about hotels in the area, and give directions to the events. The site also includes an image gallery with captions and full-screen viewing.
Bernie is a friend of mine who is starting up a performance career in Madison, WI. The site includes a contact form, simple embedded audio, and social networking links. Bernie opted for simple audio instead of an embedded Flash audio player, which would allow the files to be played but would help prevent them from being downloaded.
Miller-Beck Institute of Music
A good friend of mine teaches violin and this is the website we developed together for the business he shares with his sister and mother. Our goal with this site was elegance, with just enough modernity to appeal to both students and parents.
